I’ve been composting my food scraps as part of the Portland city program. Composting food scraps reduces waste
and creates compost for fertilizing yards and gardens. It’s really easy. Here’s how. While I prepare a meal, I keep my kitchen pail on the counter so it’s easy to put my food scraps right in as I go. After eating, I scrape my plate right into the pail. All foods can go in your compost. Cooked foods, meat and bones, seafood, eggs, dairy, grains, snack foods, fruits, coffee grounds and even the
filters. When I clean out the fridge, I put the expired food in the pail. Every few days, I empty my pail into my green cart.
